Ways to Minimize Your Carbon Footprint

We only get one Earth so why not ensure we are keeping it in the best shape possible? Here are some of the ways that I use to help minimize my negative impact on the planet.

Nature Rules:

If we want the planet to remain healthy, we need to do our part and look after it. This could be as simple as picking up our trash instead of leaving it lying around. Or maybe, it requires a little more effort. Here are some of the easy, yet essential ways you can minimize your carbon footprint.

A wonderful article written by "State of the Planet" lists some of the most impactful things you can do in your personal life.

1. Food

This was one of the top points made in this article, and they detail many useful suggestions that require little change to your routine. The food tips include: buying in bulk, choosing local and organic products, eating in season products, and recycling waste.

2. Shopping

More products = more waste.

For example, instead of 20 plastic bags, consider a reusable option. Also consider trying items that utilize less excessive packaging. Also stop buying water by small bottles, this creates a ton of waste, and can be easily solved with larger or reusable bottled water options.

3. While at Home

Don't waste utilities! Turn off lights in rooms you aren't in, and unplug unnecessary devices. This can also save you a lot of money in the long run. Also considering setting up a recycling bin in your home, to keep track of your recyclable products. Composting is also good for your gardens or plant soil and creates less waste in dumps.

4. Exercise

Consider walking or biking to nearby places, instead of driving in a vehicle. Not only does this benefit the environment, but also keep your heart healthy. When driving to far away locations, consider a public transport or carpooling to help conserve gas and limit carbon emissions.

5. Cleaning

When doing your laundry, pay attention to how often you wash your clothing. Consider limiting the amount of times you do your laundry. Also switch to cold water, as warm water burns more carbon dioxide. Take shorter showers or use a low flowing shower head to reduce your hot water use.

Overall,

Consider what you can do to limit your impact on the planet. It may not be as hard as you think!
